Volunteers showed up on site this morning before the sun came up. By lunchtime, the walls were all up! A huge thank you to HomeAway and all the volunteers that came out to partner with us today to change lives.

As a long-standing tradition at our house dedications, the new homeowner passes a hammer and offers words of encouragement to a family just entering our program. Manuel Reyes and his daughter were excited to receive their hammer last weekend and can’t wait to start working on their own home!

Five Who Care: Gerard Van de Werken

Without our wonderful and committed volunteer, in the office and on the job site, we would not be able to provide safe, decent, and most importantly affordable housing.

One such volunteer is Gerard Van de Werken. Gerard serves year after year as a volunteer construction crew leader and as an advocate at his church, West Lake UMC. He has built more than 25 homes with Austin Habitat and continues to be a valuable asset to our construction department. His hard work and dedication to our mission of home ownership was recently recognized by local news stations KVUE. Take a moment to watch the video.
